Inspiration

Meetings are a necessary evil—but too often, they waste time and disrupt workflows. We were inspired to build an async meeting platform after experiencing firsthand how hard it is to align schedules. Instead of sitting through long, unproductive meetings, we wanted a way to capture discussions, decisions, and action items asynchronously.

What it does

CrunchTime eliminates the need for repetitive stand-ups by automatically generating concise summaries of a person’s previous work, current plans, and ongoing challenges. CrunchTime’s dashboard system provides a clear, at-a-glance summary of each team member’s progress. Instead of manually checking updates, users can quickly see what someone worked on previously, what they plan to do next, any challenges they’re currently facing

The Impact

By reducing unnecessary meetings, our platform helps teams save time, improve decision-making, and maintain focus. No more endless Zoom calls just efficient, structured discussions that lead to real outcomes.

How we built it

Our platform is powered by:

AI-driven summaries to extract key points from discussions
Threaded conversations to keep topics structured
Smart action item tracking to ensure follow-ups don't get lost

Using React for the frontend, Node.js for the backend, and OpenAI’s API for summarization, we built an intuitive interface that keeps teams aligned without the need for constant live meetings.

We faced many team challenges; one especially was finding an idea we all liked. After wasting a day brainstorming

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We actually managed to finish frontend, backend and even created a video after a lot of setbacks.

What we learned

Not all async solutions work the same some discussions still need real-time input, while others benefit from structured async threads.
AI can help, but it’s not perfect tuning our summarization models to capture the right level of detail was a challenge.

What's next for CrunchTime

Speech to text implementation so users can chat with a live bot to log what they have completed and any blockers that can easily be solved. (was a feature we originally wanted to focus on but you know things happen)
