Inspiration

We’re inspired by the untapped joy in Hong Kong’s fragmented travel moments, a chance to connect travelers with local culture and nature. CRUMBS was born from a sincere desire to enhance experiences, support microbusinesses, and plant trees through tokens, embedding ESG as a heartfelt mission to sustain our world.

What it does

CRUMBS is a progressive web app (PWA) where users input their next destination and time. Our AI harnesses open data and algorithms to plan seamless trips—local culture, food, or eco-spots—fitting those gaps. The token system lets users buy trips, earn by reviewing or adding spots, donate to plant trees, or exchange for partner coupons, building a thriving, sustainable community.

How we built it

Using agile and design thinking, we first created a PRD to outline our MVP (P0: Trip planning; P1: Token system), prioritizing user empathy and tech feasibility. Then we vibed with AWS Kiro, our coding IDE, to accelerate development with optimized AI snippets. Built on Next.js for seamless PWA cross-platform access, we integrated maps, login, backend features easily, while design iterations focused on intuitive UI flows, ensuring accessibility and eco-focus, creating a robust, user-centric platform.

Challenges we ran into

Token system security required robust safeguards, and initial AI personalization struggled with sparse data—addressed with onboarding enhancements. Design thinking helped balance tech complexity with user needs, fueling our ESG commitment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of our AI-driven trip planner, seamlessly fitting fragmented time with open data precision. The token system, enabling tree donations and local support, is a community triumph, while ESG features like accessible parks reflect our dedication to a greener, inclusive HK—delivered with a scalable, user-centric platform.

What we learned

We mastered AI’s potential to personalize travel and the power of tokens for community growth, including tree-planting impact. Design thinking taught us user-centric innovation, while overcoming data challenges deepened our ESG resolve—key lessons for ethical, sustainable tech.
