Crucible: Project Story
Inspiration
Hackathons often waste valuable time on brainstorming ideas that are either too generic or technically infeasible. We wanted to build an AI co-founder that helps teams generate, refine, and stress-test ideas within their constraints.
What it does
Crucible is an AI-powered project ideation platform. Users provide their theme, constraints, and team size, and Crucible generates a tailored project proposal. They can then refine the idea through an AI chat, collaborate with teammates, and develop the problem statement, features, and technical stack.
How we built it
- Frontend: React + Vite
- Backend: FastAPI + Pydantic
- AI: Featherless AI APIs for model inference and structured AI outputs
- Database: Supabase PostgreSQL
- Real-time: Server-Sent Events (SSE)
- Auth: Google OAuth + email/password
Challenges
Maintaining reliable structured JSON outputs, synchronizing real-time SSE streams with frontend state, and debugging asynchronous backend issues were our biggest challenges.
Accomplishments
We built a polished real-time ideation workflow, integrated authentication and collaboration, and deployed a separated Vercel + Render architecture during the hackathon.
