As a college student, it's expensive and difficult to find sound equipment to facilitate large meetings and events. Our app, CrowdSound, unites attendees' Android phone speakers to create instant surround sound -- no sound equipment needed. CrowdSound sends real time microphone-captured audio over UDP to all listeners. The push-to-talk functionality greatly reduces feedback, and any person within the wifi network can join in the conversation. We used Golang for the server to keep track of conversations. Our future goals include creating a complete decentralized distributed system that can take advantage of Android P2P wifi as well as synchronized audio playback.
