Inspiration💭
We have all seen people complain about the garbage and pollution in their society and localities. Yet only a few people really work towards making a change. In this hackathon, we thought of becoming the catalysts to change. We also thought to help our friendly environmentalists and data scientists with the help of people.
What it does🧭
CrowdPoint is an independent and reliable data collection platform by citizens – Citizen Science – for modelling and collection of information on pollution at the grassroots level. This also acts as a social awareness platform for citizens to provide information on pollution in their localities to other citizens and government authorities. It is very simple to use, see garbage orf pollution in your locality, just click a picture, provide location and post!!!
How we built it👷♂️
We used Flutter, React and Firebase for building this app. Using FCM and Aadhar API we were able to verify each and every user for valid reports. The app provides a medium for all citizens including government to view all posts and reports just like any other social media platform. We have also created an Admin dashboard for government authorities to comment on and update the status of the reports.
Challenges we ran into🚧
- Inspiration for the idea.
- Valid Authentication methods for real-time use.
- Making a heavy database like Instagram to store high-quality images.
- Updating admin dashboard with real-time data and reducing latency.
What we learned✏️
- Building an extensible heavy-duty database.
- Authentication using Aadhar.
- Storage and maintenance of data points in a structured way and making them available to users for various purposes.
What's next for CrowdPoint🔮
- Real-time visualization of data points on a geo map.
- Connecting with Government platforms.
- Incorporating ML models for better visualization of data.
