Inspiration
I got inspired by the current situation we are living in. Near my house, many children have a hard time follow the social distancing rules in place. Hence why I decided to create a project that would incite them and sensitize them to the importance of those rules.
What it does
CrossyCo is a 2D video game where the user play a character trying to follow the safety measures for the Coronavirus outbreak. The game is separated into levels and between each one, their is a trivia question on the topic of the next level. On the main levels, the goal is to get from point A to point B by keeping distance with the pedestrians walking horizontally. If the player gets too close, he goes back to the starting point.
How I built it
CrossyCo was built with Python and PyGame. The characters and backgrounds where designed using PixelArt.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was to gather all my newly learned knowledge to implement it in the making of the game.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm am proud of having created a game on my own that is fully functioning in as little as 24h.
What I learned
To make CrossyCo, I had to learn from scratch how to use PyGame. It was a very fun experience and it turned out less difficult than i thought.
What's next for CrossyCo
I am planning on further developing CrossyCo, by building more level, incorporating sounds, adding more characters and polishing the design. Afterwards, I will showcase the game to the kids in my neighbourhood, hopefully being of help to my close community. I may also publish make it open-source so people all over the world can play it.
