Inspiration
Outside of the workplace, it can be difficult to make friends or connections on your own. Part of making friends in high school or college was the convenience of it. This idea aims to extend this convenience further into adulthood.
What it does
Using the geographic data that people produced, along with interests they provide when setting up their account, this app produces a list of people who cross paths regularly and match to a certain degree their interests.
How we built it
We built this using Jupyter Notebook with randomly generated location data and timestamps for a group of users to simulate the data we gather.
Challenges we ran into
We weren't able to find data sets with the data we needed so we were forced to simulate one that may not be representative of actual people. Additionally, we did not have time to incorporate interests into the program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first hackathon and the first data science project we pursued outside of curriculum.
What we learned
We learned what we lack in preparation for a hackathon and how to adapt for future ones.
What's next for Crossing Paths
Collecting actual data as well as building a functional UI.
