Inspiration

Job hunting today is fragmented and overwhelming. Applications are spread across multiple platforms, networking happens in disconnected tools, and follow-ups are easy to forget. We were inspired by our own experiences juggling spreadsheets, notes, and reminders and wanted to create a single system that brings clarity and confidence to the job search process.

What it does

Job Application Assistant centralizes the entire job search journey. It allows users to:

  • Track job applications across platforms
  • Manage connections at target companies
  • Generate tailored outreach and referral messages
  • Receive smart follow-up reminders
  • Turn job descriptions into interview preparation insights

How we built it

We built the project as a cross-platform solution, starting with a browser extension to capture job data directly from posting sites. Job descriptions and application metadata are structured into a unified system that powers tracking, reminders, networking prompts, and interview prep features. Throughout development, we emphasized a clean, intuitive user experience to keep the tool simple despite its powerful capabilities.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was handling the variability of job postings across different platforms. Designing reminder and messaging flows that felt helpful, rather than overwhelming, also required careful iteration. Additionally, balancing feature richness with usability pushed us to make thoughtful trade-offs during development.

Next, we plan to expand support for more job platforms, improve connection intelligence, and enhance interview preparation with deeper personalization. Our long-term goal is to become a trusted assistant that supports candidates from their first application to their final offer.
