Inspiration

We were inspired by the real needs of African farmers—especially in rural and underserved communities—who often lack access to timely agricultural advice, crop diagnostics, and peer support. Cropvie aims to be their intelligent companion, helping identify crops, detect diseases early, and connect with other farmers.

What it does

Cropvie is an AI-powered farming assistant built to support farmers across Africa and beyond.

With Cropvie, users can:

Instantly scan plants to detect crop type, diseases, or pests

Get actionable advice based on AI analysis

Chat with AgriBot or connect with other farmers

Access and listen to curated agricultural learning content (read-aloud is for learning only)

How we built it

We built Cropvie using Bolt.new, which allowed us to rapidly prototype, collaborate, and deploy seamlessly. Our stack includes:

React + Tailwind for a fast and mobile-friendly interface

Supabase for authentication, real-time chat, and database

Replicate for plant and insect identification models

ElevenLabs for text-to-speech in learning modules

Integrated open agricultural APIs and curated learning resources

Challenges we ran into

Real-time messaging UX (auto-scrolling, unread count tracking, syncing across chats)

Managing async AI feedback and bot interaction fluidly

Optimizing UI for both tech-savvy and rural users

Curating relevant, multilingual, and practical learning content

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Integrated real-time crop scanning and advice delivery

Smooth chatbot and human messaging

Read-aloud learning tailored to farmers

Community-ready design, powered by Bolt

What we learned

How to combine crop recognition with actionable AI responses
