Inspiration
Millions of small farmers lose crops every year to diseases they can't identify in time. They don't have access to agronomists or expensive lab tests. We wanted to give every farmer a smart agricultural expert in their pocket — for free.
What it does
CropShield lets farmers upload a photo of their crop. Our AI instantly analyzes the image and returns:
- The disease or condition detected
- The likely cause (fungal, bacterial, pest, etc.)
- Recommended treatment steps
- Whether the crop is healthy or at risk
How we built it
We built CropShield entirely on MeDo, using its AI app builder to create a mobile-friendly web app. The app takes image input from the user and passes it through an AI vision model that diagnoses crop health. No code frameworks needed — MeDo handled the full stack.
Challenges we ran into
- Getting the AI to accurately distinguish between similar-looking diseases
- Making the UI simple enough for farmers with basic smartphones
- Ensuring the advice given is actionable and not overly technical
What we learned
We learned how powerful MeDo's AI capabilities are for building real-world tools fast. We also learned a lot about common crop diseases affecting Indian farmers.
What's next for CropShield
- Support for regional languages (Hindi, Bengali, Tamil)
- Offline mode for areas with poor connectivity
- Integration with local agricultural helplines
- Crop calendar and weather-based alerts
