The Genesis of Nepal's Crop Management System

A Personal Journey

One day, my father asked me to buy rice from his farmer friend in our village. When I inquired about the price, the farmer quoted just NRS 100 per kilogram—less than $1. Surprised by how low this seemed, I asked if the price was fair. His response struck me deeply:

"This is what farmers get. We can't set our own prices; we're at the mercy of what customers will pay." This encounter resonated with me profoundly. Living in a small Nepali village where farming is the primary source of income for most families, I witnessed firsthand how limited market information disadvantages our agricultural communities. The Solution Motivated to address this inequality, I developed this Crop Management System as a practical solution tailored to Nepal's rural context. The application is intentionally designed as an offline tool, recognizing the inconsistent internet connectivity in our villages. The system offers farmers several key benefits: Track crop prices across different markets Receive alerts when prices fall below sustainable levels Visualize trends through simple graphs By storing data in lightweight JSON files rather than complex databases, the system runs efficiently on basic computers: The system displays all prices in Nepali Rupees and focuses on locally relevant crops. This modest technological intervention empowers farmers to make data-driven decisions about when and where to sell their harvest. While currently an offline application, this project represents a first step toward digital equity for Nepal's agricultural sector, created by someone who understands their challenges firsthand.
