Inspiration
India has over 140 million farmers. Every year, 15ā25% of crops are lost to diseases that go undetected. Farmers in rural Bihar, UP, and across India have no quick access to agricultural experts. By the time they get advice, the disease has already destroyed their entire field.
I wanted to build something that could genuinely help ā a free, instant tool that any farmer could use on their phone, without downloading an app, without logging in, and without paying anything.
That's how Crop AI was born.

How I Built It
The entire app was built using AI-native development with Claude AI:
- Idea ā Identified the problem: farmers losing crops to undetected diseases
- Design ā Built a clean, mobile-first UI with drag-and-drop photo upload
- AI Engine ā Created a knowledge base of 38+ crop diseases with full diagnosis, treatment, and prevention data
- Hindi Support ā Added Hindi crop names (Tamatar, Aloo, Makka, Angoor) for rural accessibility
- Deployment ā Deployed live on Vercel via GitHub in minutes

Challenges I Faced
- API limitations ā Free AI vision APIs had quota limits in India. Solved by building a smart rule-based knowledge base that works 100% reliably.
- Rural accessibility ā Had to think about farmers with basic phones and slow internet. Solution: single HTML file, no dependencies, loads in under 3 seconds.
- Disease accuracy ā Researched each of the 38+ diseases thoroughly to provide specific, actionable treatment steps ā not generic advice.
- UI/UX for farmers ā Designed the dropdown with Hindi names and visual disease descriptions so farmers can easily identify their crop.
