What is this?

Welcome to the forest, where no animal wants to take any risks since the Big Bad Wolf incident. Save these little critters from the various unfortunate happenings in their home by doing something you never thought would be fun-- making insurance claims!

Inspiration

We decided to make this game because we know that making a claim can be very stressful. We hope that by turning the claims process into an interactive game, we are able to educate people on what their coverage actually includes and make the process feel less overwhelming.

What it does

We aimed to create three animal friends, each with a different level of home insurance coverage, specifically Essential, Direct, and Premier, along with their own add-ons and extras. The user can explore their homes in a point-and-click style game and navigate several disasters the animals are facing. Through these interactions, players learn what is required to make a claim and which accidents or mistakes are covered under each policy.

How we built it

We built the game using Godot, importing some premade assets and creating our own sprites and scenes. We also utilised sound effects and simple animations to enhance the gameplay experience and make the world feel more immersive.

Challenges we ran into

We initially struggled with creating and managing sprites, especially since not everyone on the team was fluent in using Godot. There were some learning setbacks at the start, but we worked through them and adapted quickly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to complete two fully playable character levels. We hope the game feels rich and fun to explore with all the little quirks we added in. We are particularly proud of the sprites we created ourselves, especially since none of us had a drawing tablet and we created everything using just a laptop and mouse.

What we learned

We learned how to create animations in Godot, implement sound effects, and work with various node types that we had not previously used. We also improved our understanding of scene management and interactive design within the engine.

What's next for Critter Claims

We hope to complete the third characters and expand the game further. We would like to add more interactive elements, such as additional clickable objects that either introduce new claim scenarios or provide flavour text to enhance user experience. We are also considering making the game level-based, where users must find and resolve all valid claims before progressing to the next stage.
