Inspiration
We were inspired by the fact that many individuals who have literacy problems or can't think in the moment have trouble understanding and acting on stressful situations. So we wanted to create a tool that not only simplifies information, but helps organize, prioritize, and complete actions required to overcome a certain situation.
What it does
CrisisClear is an AI assistant that converts complex instructions or turns alarming situations into simple, actionable steps to overcome a certain crisis. CrisisClear provides a step by step checklist to follow, a summarized response of massive letters, it organizes important dates, underlies risks, and provides contact options. CrisisClear also contains a chat thread to allow users to add on to a situation so they could receive different instructions in the case of a new event.
How we built it
We built CrisisClear as a full stack AI web application using Next.js, React, JavaScript, and Groq AI. We used ChatGPT for the logic and reasoning of the app and especially to plan for many possible features in the app. Then, we used Cursor as an AI coding tool to implement features onto the app. Finally, we used Git to push changes to our repository in GitHub.
Challenges we ran into
We spent lots of thought designing a solution that provides more value for a specific topic than a tradition AI chatbot would. We also realized we had to secure API keys and implement server-side AI integration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we successfully built our first fully functional AI-powered web app that uses an API key. We're also proud we deployed a live hosted application with secure AI integration, multilingual support, voice input, and follow-up conversations, all things that we've never implemented before on projects.
What we learned
We learned full-stack AI applications require careful coordination between frontend, backend, and AI services. We also learned security and privacy must be considered from the beginning of development because midway through developing the project we found security issues.
What's next for CrisisClear
In the future, we plan to support a mobile application for CrisisClear. Users won't easily be able to access the web in an emergency and so a mobile application would be more faster and efficient. We also plan to integrate emergency services which could provide users with emergency resources best fitted for them.
