Inspiration

We know what it feels like to be unsafe and always on the watch. We want to limit this anxiousness and fear around places that should be safe. No student should feel at risk on their own campus.

What it does

It has a crime reporting feature that cautions students to stay away from risky areas. It also lets them share information about routes, such as which one is best and which ones should be avoided.

How we built it

We built it using VS Code. We mainly used HTML and CSS, while using extensions such as Live Server to run the code. We also used a snippet of JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

There was the challenge of the learning curve, because we knew Java but not Javascript. We also had errors with collaborating in real time, and coming up with a good way to present the idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the speed and determination we had when completing this project. Even if we were tired from the rain and being out, we still worked on it. This is our first hackathon, and we came out with a project we are proud of in a short amount of time.

What we learned

We learned a lot about front end development. From the workshops we learnt about User Interface and React. We also learnt about using domains and pivotal concepts in the computer science world.

What's next for Crimino

Crimino has great potential. We want to bring all our ideas to reality so students can benefit from it. We want to implement an in-app navigation system with route updates, a walking partner system that connects nearby users with others headed in the same direction, a SOS button to alert authorities, family, and/or friends, a protected walk feature with live location toggled on, multiple safe spots, more accessibility features for greater inclusion, and more collaborators so user input can be implemented into the design.
