CrimeScene GPT – AI-Powered Crime & Accident Reconstruction

Inspiration

Investigations often require analyzing large amounts of evidence, witness statements, photographs, and reports before investigators can understand what actually happened. This process is time-consuming and can delay critical decisions.

We wanted to build an AI-powered platform that assists investigators by transforming raw evidence into interactive visual reconstructions and intelligent insights. Our goal was to make investigations faster, more accurate, and easier to understand.

What it does

CrimeScene GPT is an AI-powered forensic investigation platform that reconstructs crime and accident scenes from evidence, witness statements, images, and reports.

The platform can:

  • Generate AI-based investigation reports
  • Analyze evidence and witness statements
  • Create interactive 3D accident reconstructions
  • Display satellite and forensic map views
  • Build event timelines
  • Visualize multiple accident scenarios
  • Help investigators understand how an incident most likely occurred

Instead of manually connecting every piece of evidence, investigators receive an intelligent reconstruction that supports decision-making.

How we built it

We built CrimeScene GPT as a modern web application using React for the frontend and Node.js for the backend.

The application integrates AI to analyze incident data and generate investigation insights. MongoDB is used for storing case information, while interactive maps and 3D visualization recreate accident scenes. Firebase is used for authentication and secure user management.

Challenges we ran into

Some of our biggest challenges included:

  • Designing realistic forensic and accident reconstruction interfaces.
  • Synchronizing AI-generated analysis with interactive visualizations.
  • Building accurate 3D reconstruction logic.
  • Managing backend integration and database connectivity.
  • Optimizing performance while rendering interactive scenes.

What we learned

This project strengthened our understanding of:

  • AI-assisted decision support
  • Full-stack web development
  • Prompt engineering
  • Database design
  • Interactive mapping
  • 3D visualization
  • Team collaboration
  • UI/UX for investigative software

What's next

We plan to expand CrimeScene GPT by adding:

  • Real-time CCTV analysis
  • Drone and aerial scene reconstruction
  • Multi-agent AI investigation
  • Voice-based investigator assistant
  • Digital evidence chain of custody
  • Predictive accident analysis
  • Support for additional forensic scenarios

Our vision is to build an intelligent investigation platform that helps law enforcement, insurance companies, and forensic professionals reconstruct incidents faster, smarter, and with greater confidence.
