CRIC LAB
Inspiration
I have always been interested in franchise auction simulations, where selecting the right players and managing a budget can make a huge difference. Through participating in these simulations, I realised how crucial data is in sports and how statistics can influence decisions, from player selection to match strategy. This curiosity led me to explore sports analytics and machine learning, inspiring me to build CRIC LAB to turn cricket data into meaningful, actionable insights.
What it does
CRIC LAB is a cricket analytics platform that uses historical match data, statistics, and machine learning to support tactical decision-making. It helps analyse player performance, evaluate choices such as selecting the next batter or bowler, and compare strategies through simulations. The goal is to help users make more informed decisions using data rather than intuition alone.
How we built it
We built CRIC LAB using Python, with tools for data processing, statistical analysis, machine learning, and interactive visualisation. We process ball-by-ball cricket data, engineer useful features, train predictive models, and present insights through an interactive dashboard.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was translating cricket's complex rules and tactical situations into reliable logic. Handling ball-by-ball data, accounting for extras and wickets, selecting meaningful statistics, and simulating possible outcomes required careful data processing and domain-specific reasoning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We brought cricket data analytics and tactical decision-making together in one platform. We are proud of building a foundation that goes beyond traditional scorecards to help users analyse players, compare strategies, and explore possible match outcomes.
What we learned
We gained practical experience in statistics, data handling, feature engineering, machine learning, and visualisation. We also learned the importance of data quality, model evaluation, and understanding the real-world context behind predictions.
What's next for CRIC LAB
Our next goal is to develop a franchise auction platform using cricket data to help teams evaluate players, identify undervalued talent, analyse squad requirements, and make more informed bidding decisions. We also aim to expand our datasets, improve our predictive models, and build more advanced tactical simulations.
