CrewLog v1 is live
We built CrewLog for the Ring track of Build, Ship, Shape: Amazon Developer Hackathon. It turns the Ring camera a homeowner already owns into an honest, automatic work log for contractors.
What shipped in v1: • Automatic attendance: arrival, departure and hours on site from Ring motion and doorbell events • Check-in / check-out alerts, plus an end-of-day summary • No-show alerts with a polite message to the contractor, ready to send • Daily progress notes from morning and evening stills (Amazon Bedrock vision, with an offline fallback) • "Presence isn't progress": a gentle check-in when nothing changes for two work days • Crew vs. household vs. neighbour, classified by visit pattern, with no face recognition • A shared weekly report that homeowner and contractor both see • A one-command autoplay demo that runs all six scenes while the dashboard follows along
Under the hood: Ring Partner API (HMAC-signed webhooks), FastAPI, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, Lambda, EventBridge Scheduler and React, all deployable with one AWS SAM template. 33 tests passing.
How a visit gets classified, strongest signal first: Doorbell press in work hours → Crew Vehicle sighting in work hours → Crew Stay ≥ 60 min in work hours → Crew Stay ≥ 60 min outside hours → Household Anything shorter → Visitor / neighbour Package delivery → Delivery (never counted)
Next up: live Bedrock vision, "That was me" corrections in the UI, and Alexa+: "Did the crew show up today?"
