Inspiration

The inspiration for our project stemmed from a desire to delve deeper into the world of consumer banking and gain a practical understanding of how credit card transactions are managed. We aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life operations within the banking industry.

What it does

Our Credit Card Transactions Database serves as a comprehensive tool for centralized management of cardholders' transactions, payments, rewards, and disputes. It facilitates secure record-keeping and empowers a financial company to efficiently monitor, analyze, and optimize its credit card operations.

How I built it

Under the guidance of Prof. Chris Fernandez from Union College, my partner Bao Vo and I undertook the task of designing and implementing the database. We utilized the MySQL relational DBMS to construct the framework for storing and organizing transactional data. Through collaborative efforts and late-night sessions, we brought our database to life, incorporating crucial functionalities and relationships.

Challenges I ran into

Throughout the development process, we encountered challenges such as intricately defining relationships between tables, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing query performance. Overcoming these obstacles required a combination of technical problem-solving, teamwork, and dedicated effort.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We take pride in successfully designing and implementing the Credit Card Transactions Database, showcasing our ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical solutions. The late-night work sessions and the final product stand as a testament to our dedication and determination.

What I learned

This project provided invaluable insights into consumer banking operations and database management. We gained hands-on experience in designing a database for a real-world scenario, improving our proficiency in database architecture, normalization, and query optimization.

What's next for Credit Card Transactions Database

Looking ahead, we envision further refining and expanding the capabilities of the database. This could involve incorporating advanced analytics to offer insights into customer spending patterns, enhancing security measures to protect sensitive financial data, and potentially exploring integration with emerging technologies such as machine learning for fraud detection and prevention. Our ultimate goal is to create a versatile and robust tool that contributes to the efficient functioning of consumer banks in the modern era.
