Inspiration

As a team of creators and developers, we saw a gap: full-time content creators rely on digital tools and platforms for income but lack tailored insurance. Traditional policies don’t cover copyright lawsuits, gear damage, or platform-related income loss – so we built CreatorInsurance to fill that need.

What it does

CreatorInsurance is a full-stack platform for content creators (streamers, videographers, podcasters) to access equipment, copyright liability, and income interruption insurance. Users get instant personalized quotes, manage policies via a dashboard, and submit/track claims with document uploads.

How we built it

We used React for the front-end (responsive dashboards/forms), Node.js/Express for back-end logic (premium calculation, claim processing), and MongoDB to store policy/claim data. AWS hosted the platform, with Cloudinary for media uploads and Stripe for payment tracking. We coded AI-driven risk assessment rules to generate quotes in real time.

Challenges we ran into

Calibrating premium calculation logic to stay within the $15–$50/month range while accounting for equipment value, income, and creator type was tricky. We also faced hurdles in building a real-time claim status tracker that accurately reflected processing timelines for different claim types.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a fully responsive platform that delivers instant, personalized quotes and streamlines the claims process – something no traditional insurance provider offers for creators. The bundled plan discount logic (10-15% off) also makes comprehensive coverage accessible.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of insurance business logic and user-centric design for mobile-first audiences. We also learned to balance complex back-end calculations with a simple, intuitive front-end experience for non-technical users.

What's next for this project

We plan to integrate with major content platforms (YouTube, Twitch) for automated income/policy verification, add email/SMS renewal reminders, and expand coverage to include creator-focused risks like brand partnership disputes. We’ll also launch a mobile-responsive web app optimized for iOS/Android.
