Inspiration
Creativity is often described as one of humanity's most valuable abilities, yet most educational systems devote surprisingly little attention to helping people understand how they are creative.
Traditional assessments tend to measure knowledge, personality, or cognitive ability. My goal was different. I wanted to create an educational experience that helps people recognize the unique ways they naturally participate in the creative process—and then helps them use that understanding in their lives.
After more than a decade teaching English in China, facilitating creativity workshops, and writing about creativity and personal transformation, I became convinced that every person possesses creative intelligence. The challenge is not determining whether someone is creative, but helping them discover how they are creative.
This led me to develop the InnerCube Framework, which identifies four complementary dimensions of creative intelligence: Dreamer, Observer, Alchemist, and Visionary. Rather than labeling people, the framework encourages reflection, self-awareness, experimentation, and growth.
Gemini made it possible to transform this educational philosophy into something more than an assessment: a personalized learning relationship that can continue to adapt as the individual develops.
What it does
The Creative Intelligence Platform helps individuals discover how they naturally create, think, and contribute—and then turns that understanding into action.
After completing the InnerCube assessment, Gemini generates a personalized Creative Intelligence Profile that includes:
- Creative strengths
- Growth opportunities
- Blind spots
- Reflection questions
- Practical development suggestions
But the experience does not end with the profile.
The individual identifies a real goal or challenge. The Creative Intelligence Companion considers that goal together with the individual's profile and recommends a concrete next step.
After trying it, the individual returns and reflects on what happened: what worked, what was difficult, and what they need next.
The system retrieves the individual's existing Creative Intelligence context and uses Gemini to interpret the new reflection and determine what intervention may now be most useful. It can shift creative modes when appropriate—for example, guiding someone whose dominant mode is Dreamer toward Observer when greater clarity is needed.
A new personalized action is then delivered by email, creating a continuing cycle:
Profile → Goal → Action → Reflection → Adaptation → Next Action
Rather than producing a fixed personality label or a one-time AI response, the platform recursively adapts its guidance to the individual's Creative Intelligence profile, goal, and lived experience.
How we built it
The platform combines AI, automation, persistent user context, and payment technologies:
- Stripe for payment processing
- Tally for the Creative Intelligence assessment and continuing reflections
- Make to orchestrate the automated workflows
- Google Sheets to maintain profile data and retrieve the individual's existing context
- Gemini to generate personalized profiles, interpret goals and reflections, and determine appropriate next actions
- Gmail to deliver personalized Companion responses
The initial workflow automates the journey from payment through assessment and personalized profile generation.
A second adaptive workflow creates the continuing Companion loop. When an individual submits a new reflection, the system retrieves their existing profile, combines it with their new experience and goal, asks Gemini to determine an appropriate next intervention, and automatically delivers that action.
This transforms the platform from a one-time generative experience into a human-in-the-loop agentic learning system with persistent context, feedback, decision-making, and action.
Challenges we ran into
The first challenge was creating reports that felt genuinely educational rather than like generic AI-generated text.
Developing a clear educational philosophy and translating the InnerCube Framework into consistent, personalized feedback required many iterations of prompts, workflows, and report structures.
The next challenge was more ambitious: how could personalization continue after the initial report?
Instead of simply generating another response, the system needed to reconnect an individual's new reflection with their previous profile, interpret what had happened, and decide what kind of intervention would be useful next.
This required integrating multiple services while maintaining continuity across interactions and preserving a seamless experience for the individual.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully transformed an original educational framework into a working, revenue-generating AI-powered platform.
More importantly, the project evolved during the hackathon from a personalized assessment into a continuing adaptive learning system.
The Creative Intelligence Companion can now:
- Remember an individual's Creative Intelligence context
- Connect that context with a real goal
- Recommend an actionable experiment
- Receive feedback about what actually happened
- Reassess what may be useful next
- Shift creative modes when appropriate
- Deliver a new personalized intervention
This demonstrates a different possibility for AI in education: not simply answering questions or generating content, but participating in an ongoing cycle of reflection, action, and development.
Most importantly, the platform reframes creativity as a capacity everyone possesses—not just artists or innovators.
What we learned
Building this project reinforced an important insight:
AI becomes more valuable educationally when it does not merely personalize content, but responds to the individual.
A profile alone can describe someone. A continuing feedback loop can help them develop.
The most interesting moment in the system occurs after an individual acts: when lived experience becomes new information and Gemini must reconsider what might help next.
This suggests a model of AI-supported learning that is recursive rather than linear: understand → act → reflect → adapt → act again.
Technology makes that personalization scalable, but educational philosophy and human-centered design determine what the technology is ultimately for.
What's next for Creative Intelligence Platform
The next step is to expand the Creative Intelligence Companion from creativity into a broader adaptive learning platform.
Potential applications include:
- Career exploration and decision-making
- Classroom and educator tools
- Team Creative Intelligence Profiles
- Organizational creativity development
- Guided coaching conversations
- Reflection journals
- Personalized learning pathways
- Creative Intelligence mentoring across long-term goals
The same architecture can potentially support many domains because the underlying principle remains the same: understand the individual, understand their goal, observe what happens, and adapt what comes next.
Our long-term vision is to help education shift from asking "How intelligent are you?" toward asking "How do you naturally contribute—and how can that potential continue to develop?"
We believe the purpose of education is not simply to transfer knowledge, but to awaken the creative intelligence through which new knowledge, new relationships, and new possibilities become possible.
