Inspiration
As one who is passionate about the development of humanity and communities; the excellent development of women is one key enabler of the effective development of society. Having observed how Women in diverse cultures are not able to fulfil their great potentials due to several challenges; I was inspired to take up this opportunity with the topic to contribute to steps forward in the empowerment of the women folk for the greater good of society. Furthermore, having a strong interest in technology and also being a data driven professional; I was also excited about the opportunity to learn and use a new technology and explore the excellent application of the Tigergraph Graph Database in solving practical challenges in our world.
What it does
This connected and available graph database of STEM Female Graduates Female STEM Practitioners and Female professionals globally, across all countries, will ensure that more opportunities are created and made available to Female STEM graduates without the restriction of distance. Furthermore, a lot of cost will be saved by making such information readily available in one shop and can connect Female STEM professional and graduates to opportunities and enable a more effective, efficient Mentoring network needed to also boost the opportunities and development of Women in STEM. It goes further to suggest an efficient way of working, by ensuring that multiple separate systems are not necessarily created , but rather can be combined into one graph for an expansive database covering a variety of unstructured , sometime non related information set that can be analysed and then presented on a common structured platform.
It presents the potential of a social network or “yellow pages” network of STEM Women and SDG opportunities for Women by the access to persons around the world having similar challenges, experiences and profile, and can provide solutions through an excellent network of important data and information from one platform. It creates a "ONE" data ‘network’ of STEM Women graduates and Professionals to engage in real time, effective and efficient collaboration, mentoring, recruitment, volunteerism, information and skills sharing sessions ; which will further influence Governments and organisations to scale up and speed up developments as they now can access vital KPIs and comparative real-time information on STEM data and SDG data for Women and ‘pin-point’ areas needing more urgent actions and prioritize development actions and save huge costs that comes with data acquisition and developmental planning.
How we built it
The brief conceptual methodology applied is the creation of a singular "network" of connected available data that influences STEM Women Opportunities, SDG Goals and target KPIs. Additionally, influencing factors, socio-demographic factors that affect STEM and SDG opportunities can be accessed and analysed individually, comparatively and also in relation to geographical location (i.e Country name) and Date (year of data). This connected available graphical data-set can then be used to effectively connect, inform and transform how opportunities are accessed globally and how insights from such data can be efficiently obtained to drive critical decisions, collaborate more effectively (e.g. Mentorship), efficiently and trigger actions for the development of Women globally and our society. It was built within the Graphstudio of Tigergraph; while the various datasets were mined and collated from diverse, and approved data portals, repositories and files.
Challenges we ran into
The limitations/challenges encountered in carrying out this project included : • Lack of updated/consistent SDG and STEM regular data from all countries of the world. • Unavailability of measurement and monitoring STEM and SDG targets data from all countries of the World. • Extra Skills on more diverse tools to demonstrate more real life application of this connected data network system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to learn and use a new tool to deliver a project and also the opportunity to contribute to the development of Women and humanity. Furthermore, getting to be associated with TigerGraph and Devpost, which are fantastic companies with lots to offer in the technology space, is also an excellent partnership and development step that I am proud of.
What we learned
• Graph databases and its application (i.e. my first time of usage) • TigerGraph Graph database tool, its rich functionalities and how it can be used to deliver value across fields. • More about the challenges and opportunities within the STEM Women space and the UN SDG programme. • More development of my technical skills and also getting to increase my network by being part of the Devpost/TigerGraph development community.
What's next for Creating STEM and UN SDG Search and Opportunities For Women.
This work can be further expanded and drive even more applicable value by integrating some personal information like email, company addresses to create efficient and effective, flexible, long term cost saving collaboration across geographies by this data store of a connected large set of important data(including financial, health, etc) and meta data needed to drive rapid development of STEM and Women economies and our World at large.
