Inspiration
American is becoming increasingly bipolar. But if you dig deeply, Democrats and republicans have similar ideas. We can decrease bipolarism by encouraging more people to vote. More people will vote, if they pool the logistics together to take care of each other
What it does
Allows you discover who else in your neighborhood or friend circle has the same polling location. People can register to the website with their contact info and home address. When different people login, they can discover the contact info of other people in the system with the same polling location. This allows them to initiate a conversation with them about
- whether they want to carpool together to the same polling location
- have some fun after the polling with random get togethers or kids parties to take care of small kids while adults can vot
- other logistics like adult care
How we built it
- Javascript, html, css
- google civic info api
- replit
Challenges we ran into
New to civic info api and updating html dynamically is hard
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that this website is bringing people from two parties together. The voting parties are community based and without regards to a person political associations. Builds trust and empathy with people from different views
What we learned
Lots of fun doing this and learning web development on the fly
What's next for Create Voting parties in your neighborhood
- We want to connect this with google maps to see routes
- We want to show people's support for different ideas without showing whether they are democrat or republican
- we want to show summarized data about how similar republicans and democrats are while also showing how many people agree on specific issues
