Inspiration

We were inspired from the games that we play often in our free time, namely Ultimate Chicken Horse, Rounds, and Draw Physics Line. After experiencing multiple games that we played in our free time, we decided to make our own version that incorporates what we think is the best features of those games into our own one.

What it does

The game is a competitive 1v1 time based platformer game, where one player tries to reach the goal of the map, and the other player tries to sabotage the run by drawing shapes that turn into real collidable objects. A timer is made to keep track of the time it takes for the runner to reach the goal, and the role of the runner and the player drawing is switched after one runner reaches the goal. The player that takes the shortest time to reach the goal wins the round, and the loser gets to choose a power-up card. The game lasts 3 rounds and the first to reach 3 wins will win the game.

How we built it

We made use of the open source game engine Godot to make our game.

Challenges we ran into

None of us have ever touched Godot or game development before, game is not really balanced and i dont understand gagaga. We initially planned to add power ups for both the drawer and the runner but we soon realised that it would take too much time. This was unacceptable as it could mean our game wont be finished.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud that we managed to make a working and playable game, even though it was our first time trying game development.

What we learned

We learnt that making a good game is very hard and requires a lot of collaboration between teammates.

What's next for Crayon Box Tournament
