Inspiration
CraveWise was inspired by the idea of helping people make healthier food choices without guilt or rigid dieting. It turns everyday hunger moments into practical, personalized nutrition guidance.
What it does
CraveWise lets users tell the app what they are hungry for and provides simple, actionable recommendations to make the meal more balanced and satisfying.
How we built it
I built CraveWise using React Native with Expo for the mobile experience and a FastAPI backend for recommendations. The architecture is designed to support personalized nutrition intelligence while keeping the experience simple and fast.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges were connecting the mobile application reliably to the backend , Gemini , managing the Expo/EAS build process, guardrails and designing recommendations that are useful without being restrictive or judgmental.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built a working end-to-end mobile experience where users can express their immediate food cravings and receive practical guidance. I am especially proud of making healthy eating feel realistic and compatible with the foods people actually enjoy.
What we learned
I learned that nutrition guidance works better when it fits real-life eating habits rather than asking users to completely change them. I also gained valuable experience integrating a React Native/Expo ,Gemin model ,application with a production-oriented backend.
What's next for CraveWise
Next, i plan to make recommendations more personalized using user preferences, eating patterns, and nutritional context. I also want to expand restaurant and food-item intelligence so CraveWise can provide useful guidance wherever users decide to eat.
