Inspiration

Our initial inspiration was the game Sort The Court, where the player, as a ruler of a kingdom, must decide whether or not to help their subjects.

What it does

We made and hand-drew a single-player interactive visual comedy for the PC that will make you laugh, and then make you think. It’s a funny and tragic story about perspectives, space racism, and diplomacy. In our story, a space cowboy crash-lands on an overpopulated planet that is in the middle of an intense debate about who may stay and who must leave. Different local species use your presumably rational perspective to resolve the debate.

How we built it

We are building the game in Unity and created our own visuals using Krita. We produced a complete prototype with Figma that helped us simulate the experience.

Challenges we ran into

Our team members had very limited experience with game development tools, so we struggled with the initial set up and organising the scene logic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We had some good brainstorming at the start, which resulted in an idea that we all understood and thought was interesting.

What we learned

Proper planning is very important, most definitely for a game jam as short as this one.

What's next for Crashland Diplomacy

If the game were to be continued then we would flesh out the story. We would add more conflicts, draw out the dialog for more emotional impact, and more choices for the player.
