Inspiration for the project: I was inspired by the subject of technical graphics and design, I couldn't comprehend it as it was a complicated subject in 13th grade but when I heard it had a lot to offer I turned to see how best I can close the gap of I'm understanding and application using computer sciences to assist me to demonstrate to everyone that there's nothing impossible to achieve mastery over including Technical designs so the purpose of Crane is to help all people from all walks of life to be able to design what they want and bring it to life, Crane is the real definition of "If you want something done right do it yourself". Millions of people are building houses, hotels, designing new complex machinery every day so why not save time and get exactly what you want on Crane and with so much affordability and little time.
What it does: it takes in user input which could be something like " Design a 10 roomed house with 2 bedrooms two toilets and a veranda included" then it takes these aspects into consideration and makes up the list and cost of materials needed for such a build or structure, it gives the estimate cost for the complete thing, gives the design Specifications, can even provide the drawn image of the construction plans for the building or structure you want to build and it can even request a professional architect to take a look at the construction plans and the information it provided you with so that they can approve it and users can start building. Crane also provides the risks and benefits of such a build so you know what to be careful of when building.
How we built it: We built it using APIs like Lovable for the design, ChatGPT for reference and advice and Gemini for designing the construction plans and we later refined it in Github to improve the app
Challenges we ran into : There were tons of challenges such as the was need for an API key for Gemini to work then the Quota was depleted so we couldn't really rely on Gemini to generate the construction plans images and the lovable had many errors so it really did a number on our lovable credits since we were on the free trial, another challenge was that after using some fallback methods to provide images for construction plans, the image generator started to draw blueprints that were garbage since Gemini was the only good one but with no quota we couldn't use it so we had to find another way to get it to make quality blueprints that were worth while
Accomplishments that we're proud of : We are proud that the app was successful in providing everything it was meant to do which would save time and interest more people, we were able to remove and solve most of the errors using ChatGPT but the issue of image generation was a difficult problem but the app still provided true and accurate information on what was needed and good estimations on costs for the builds. It was able to do this not only for houses but for all types of infrastructure so far I tested it for houses, lodges,cars ,bridges and coffee machines and it did not fail so I'm proud that it is able to provide users with Immense help and all it of 1 simple description of what the user wants and also provides the best blueprints for it all meaning its a success now architects don't have to do all the work alone but just have to review people's work on Crane and certify it and comment on it then people can start construction all done faster, easier and a bit less costly and this can even be done while the user is at home
What we learned during this period was that patience and consistency pays off because at times the errors felt like they had no end and it was tiresome and we had to stay up late just to receive credits on lovable. All in all it was a fun experience and I truly believe our idea has potential
What's next for Crane: We will continue to Improve Crane and polish it until its flawless and more efficient and hence by scaling it, we'll leverage it into a billion dollar company soon enough. It will become an everyday app that will assist people operating in different companies since everyday populated is increasing meaning more buildings and machinery are going to be needed and Crane can assist in the designing and in near future it will aid in testing using 3D software technology which helps manage risks and it could help reduce workload for architects while keeping them involved and reduce time taken for construction plans/diagrams to be made thus helping people all over the world get what they want ,when they want it and by designing it themselves at the push of a button
