Inspiration

I was inspired by the struggle students face when trying to manage large amounts of study material under tight deadlines. I wanted to create an AI companion that simplifies learning, preserves privacy, and adapts intelligently to each student’s needs and pace.

What it does

CrammAI transforms study materials into personalized guides, quizzes, and mnemonics using Chrome’s on-device AI. It features dynamic study modes, multimodal chat, and a live voice tutor that provides real-time, interactive, and deeply engaging learning experiences across multiple subjects.

How we built it

We built CrammAI using Chrome’s new Prompt API for on-device AI processing, combined with the Gemini Developer and Live APIs for advanced hybrid capabilities. This architecture ensures speed, security, and resilience while supporting text, image, and audio-based learning interactions.

If that is not cool enough, the app employs a powerful hybrid strategy. While on-device AI handles note generation, the server-side Gemini API tackles the complex initial analysis of your documents. The complete, AI-generated plan is then saved locally, making your study history fully accessible offline so you can load any plan instantly, anywhere. Yeeih!

Challenges we ran into

Integrating hybrid AI functionality while maintaining privacy-first performance was complex. Balancing on-device responsiveness with cloud-based power required careful optimization. Ensuring smooth multimodal processing for text, images, and audio also presented technical and design challenges that demanded creative problem-solving.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I successfully built a fully functional, hybrid AI study assistant that works seamlessly. Achieving real-time transcription, adaptive study modes, and multilingual live tutoring—all while protecting user privacy—marks a huge milestone in AI-powered education.

What we learned

I learned that privacy-preserving AI doesn’t mean sacrificing performance. On-device intelligence, when paired with hybrid APIs, can deliver exceptional speed, personalization, and security.I also discovered how thoughtful UI and prompt design can dramatically enhance educational engagement.

What's next for CrammAI

Next, I aim to expand CrammAI into a collaborative learning ecosystem where students can share AI-generated study guides, join real-time group tutoring, and sync progress across devices—continuing our mission to make studying smarter, safer, and more human-centered.
