Pixel the Cat

This is an introrduction to our Codex2022 hackathon. The challenge was provided by Riga Tech Girls. The core of the challenge was to create a discord bot. The problem we aimed to solve was the lack of fun and entertaining games to play with our friends in a Discord group. The solution to this problem for us, was to recreate an Estonian drinking game. The card is generally played with normal playing cards.

About the game

Baila is played in a circle, pulling cards from a deck. Each card has a challenge or a meaning. The way we implemented this idea in a discord bot, works by simply randomly choosing a card from the card pack to each player. For example, the first player in the game order gets shown the card which was pulled, the bot explains what this card means, and then the fun begins!

Usage

To start a game, the next command has to be used: !baila ‘player_name’ ‘player_name’ etc. To end the game, the command has to be used again. For this no arguments are needed. !baila If the challenge from the card has been completed, it is the next player's turn. To continue to the next move, the next command has to be used: !next

Challenges

Since our team is so small, we couldn't get all we wanted to do completely done. Next time we attend a hackathon we definitely have to manage our time better.

Design

The mascot for this bot is Pixel the Cat. She is a cute orange pixel-art cat. We hope everyone else likes her as much as we do!
