Inspiration
In Sudan, most doctors and healthcare workers still rely on outdated, paper-based methods to record patient data. This causes problems like lost or damaged records, difficulties in tracking patient history across clinics, and slowed workflows in already-strained health systems. The situation is even harder in rural or conflict-affected regions where internet connectivity is limited or nonexistent.
We wanted to create a tool that not only digitizes health records but also works reliably offline, ensuring no patient is left behind due to connectivity issues.
What it does
Cphorm is a lightweight, offline-first digital health platform designed for connectivity-challenged environments.
- Doctors and field workers record patient data using customizable forms on mobile or desktop devices.
- Data is stored safely on the device, even when offline.
- Once online, information automatically syncs to a secure backend.
- A clean, role-based web dashboard allows doctors to:
- Add Patients
- Manage Patient
- Track Patient History
- Create and Export reports in CSV/XLSX
- Provides a data platform for NGOs and policymakers, integrating multiple data sources into a single analytics dashboard to monitor regional health trends, generate insights, and support data-driven decision-making.
How we built it
- Frontend: Mobile- and web-friendly forms for data entry (PWA)
- Backend: Secure server that automatically syncs patient records once connectivity is restored
- Database: syncing of patient data
- Dashboard: Role-based web interface for doctors to manage patient records Provides filtering, search
- Data-Platform: for NGOs, government and organizations , with machine learning insights on regional data
Challenges we ran into
- Designing a system that works seamlessly offline without risking data loss
- Building a solution lightweight enough for low-resource devices while still powerful enough for analytics
- Managing different users: Policy makers look for insights while doctor care about their patients
- Handling synchronization conflicts when multiple users update the same patient record
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Designed a role-based dashboard for different healthcare stakeholders
- Enabled customizable data forms to adapt to clinics
What's next for Cphorm
-- Manage to architect the platform based on doctors’ real needs, which requires us to sit down with doctors and healthcare professionals to standardize templates and provide drag-and-drop fields for easier customization.
- Develop a data platform for policymakers, integrating multiple data sources with a robust data pipeline and analytics dashboard to deliver clear insights into the current healthcare situation in Sudan.
- Adapt and build a dedicated device or mobile application for use in remote areas, where connectivity and resources are extremely limited.
- Planning support for Arabic-language interfaces
