Inspiration
As a new parent, I struggled to find a decibel meter that was designed for baby sleep environments. Most apps were built for musicians or sound engineers - not for checking if white noise machines were safe for tiny ears. I wanted a simple, parent-friendly tool to help me keep my baby’s room quiet, safe, and cozy.
What it does
Cozy Decibels is a minimalist iOS app that measures noise levels in your baby's room and helps you stay within safe sound thresholds recommended by pediatric experts. It gives you instant decibel readings, visual alerts, and tips tailored for sleep safety and white noise usage.
How I built it
This was my first-ever iOS app. I used Xcode and Swift, and leaned heavily on AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT to speed up development. I designed it with parents in mind - no fluff, just one tap and go.
Challenges I ran into
-Learning iOS development from scratch -Finding reliable decibel calculation methods -Getting clean UI and performance on older iPhones
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
-Building a functional, live app as a solo parent-founder -Designing something that genuinely helps other parents -Launching with a clean UI and accurate decibel readings
What I learned
How to build and publish an iOS app from scratch!
