Inspiration

This project emerged from our desire to join the international efforts to fight against COVID-19, trying both to flatten the curve and to prevent a second wave of infection/spreading.

What it does

The application monitors the risk of contracting COVID-19, by identifying the possibilities of infection defined as potential contact between a person confirmed with the infection and the people who were in their immediate vicinity. This is achieved by storing Bluetooth devices, which are mutually detectable if they are in a circle with a radius of less than 10m. In this regard, the application needs permissions related to Bluetooth and location in order to perform the monitoring. The verification and monitoring of the interaction history is done directly on your terminal.

How we built it

Our team had previously developed a similar application designed for crowd management during large events, as part of an ESA project, so we had the idea to adapt it for the current context.

Challenges we ran into

The app needs access to official records of infected patients, and so far we didn’t have good cooperation with the authorities. A strong governmental support would be very useful

Accomplishments

Our team managed to develop a stable application in a very short time.

What we learned

We learned that we are a solid team that was able to communicate well, even during remote working.

What's next for CovTrack

At this point we have a stable version only for Android, we need to develop it for the IOS. Furthermore, we are in negotiations with the authorities for implementing it.
