Covid Spy is a very simple app to use. If you're an android user then you can install the app from the Google Play store, register, login, then you will have full access to all the different pin-pointing areas near your location that may contribute to the spread of covid-19. Law enforcement and the vulnerable groups can visit covidspy.tech to view the cases that have been resolved and local areas that potentially carry a high risk of covid spread. Users will not be required to register for an account in the web version.
What it does
It allows users to create an online account and pinpoint areas where covid-19 may spread. The map can be viewed online on the covidspy.tech website, where users can anonymously view the collected data and local authorities can take the appropriate actions. Our main intention is not to create fear among the public, but to protect our community by following the appropriate precautions to minimize the spread of covid. Stop the spread and save lives with Covid Spy today!
How I built it
The demo of this project was built in Android Studio, using Flutter. The demo also uses the Google Maps API. In terms of presentation and the UI, Figma was primarily used.
Challenges I ran into
Our entire team was constantly learning and evolving throughout this hackathon, and all of us had never used Flutter ever before. We started this hackathon using LinkedIn Learning for Flutter, and went from there. In addition to this, most of us had little experience with Android Studios so this lead to problems down the line. Some problems included not being able to fully link the firebase to the flutter project and this prevented us from publishing the app onto the google play store.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We learned new tools like; firebase, figma, flutter, Google Cloud Services, and how to create an MVP project under short time.
What I learned
Used Figma for presentation and mockup. Used Flutter for the mobile UI and Firebase to store user information. We also used google map-api as it was needed for our requirement. What's next for Covidspy
With the scope of this project and hackathon, we knew that we had to focus on the core functionality and presentation in case of trouble along the way. This meant that we planned for allot of our functionality to be an extension of the project. Here are some of our main extensions and future goals; maintaining a database with Firebase to record user profile information, as well as all markers within a users area. Additionally, our working demo is a very early prototype, in the future we aim to heavily revamp and add to the user interface, so that it accurately resembles the UI show in the main presentation video.
