Inspiration

The inspiration behind building this project is the current pandemic situation in India. Our target audience(the poor and uneducated people of India) are in need of emergency services like hospital beds, ventilators, Oxygen and they are not able to avail them at a fair price due to lack of awareness. They are also falling prey to fraudsters who sell these critical services in the black market at excessively high prices. Along with this main objective, we will also be promoting covid appropriate behavior to stop the third wave from affecting our country as severely as the second wave.

What it does

CovidServicesIndia has data compiled from verified government sources with real time updates at one place. It provides information regarding critical covid combating drug suppliers(namely Remdesivir, Tocilizumab), oxygen leads, hospital beds, blood banks & ambulance services and vaccination centres. The advantage of using this portal is that the data is authentic and our target audience which is not tech-savy will be able to access healthcare services efficiently without having to go through the hassle of state/central government's helpline numbers.

How we built it

We have created our project using Python's popular Django v3 framework for the backend. For the front end, we have used BootStrap 4.4 and JavaScript Plugins. The data which we have compiled from public sources and Government of India needed some processing for which we used Pandas, OpenPyxl and Xlrd. We deployed our application on the web a popular hosting service, pythonanywhere.com

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we ran into was the scarcity of data. Due to data collection in India for healthcare data not being done in a uniform manner we were not able to provide hospital leads for all the states.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a Covid-19 dashboard in a dire and desperate situation our country is in for social good which will help our citizens access emergency services from verified sources swiftly.

What we learned

We learnt to design webpages in such a short timeframe and designed a dark themed website for the first time. Also we got good experience of working in Django. We had some experience earlier but using it in an application which is for public use for fantastic Also, we integrated Pandas Dataframe into Django backend for the first time.

What's next for CovidServicesIndia

With more data, CovidServicesIndia will become the go-to application when it comes to accessing government healthcare services. With the availibility of regional data we can use Machine Learning Models for tasks such as predicting the spread of the virus and preparing the healthcare institutes in that paritcular region accordingly.
