Inspiration

Covid-19 testing is a very important part of our lives now. However, due to the demand people have to wait for hours just to get a test done. Members of our group have experienced being turned away from test sites that were overly crowded, or learning of changes to test availability and patient eligibility after traveling to a test site. These experiences are frustrating and a theft of time and energy in a world where both are a luxury.

Our web app aggregates test site data in real time, allowing users to see the current availability of covid testing sites and approximate wait times at those sites, so that they can choose the most efficient site to travel to.

What it does

There are two users of our web app: Users and Administrators.

Administrators are employees of the testing sites. They are able to login and determine how many patients are waiting at the site based on estimates. When new information is received, pin colors are updated accordingly.

Users enter their zip code and a page showing covid test locations near them is displayed. The map on the page has pins that indicate if the testing site has a moderate wait time (yellow), a long wait (orange) or is extremely busy (red), allowing users to choose which site best suits their needs.

How we built it

We used figma to create prototypes of how the screens would appear. We built the web app using React.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first hackathon for 3/4 of our team and we had a lot to learn about how to organize ourselves and our work. Most of us had never used React before and some of us had never worked with HTML or Javascript before. We had some struggles with communication as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was the first hackathon for a lot of us, so learning how to work with react was amazing!

What we learned

We all learned how to use React, how to design using Figma, and how HTML, CSS and Javascript work together to create user interfaces. We also learned how to plan and execute collaborative projects better in the future.
