Inspiration
I have always wanted to mod the classic FPS Doom, but never had the drive until now.
What it does
This WAD changes how some weapons work, as well as the look of weapons/projectiles/enemies.
How I built it
I used Slade for the WAD building and modifying the weapons. Everything was drawn with GIMP.
Challenges I ran into
I have never used Slade before, nor have I programmed for Doom. Learning how objects in Doom work was hard at first, but the basics are not as bad as they seem, and the ZDoom website provided a ton of helpful documentation.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
At first this was just going to be a sprite redraw, but once I learned what else Slade could do I decided to put more time and effort into this project.
What I learned
I learned how Slade and Doom works, as well as some neat tricks from GIMP.
What's next for COVIDoom
COVIDoom will most likely end here, as a fun first mod of Doom. This said, bigger Doom project ideas are coming to me, and hopefully will come out during my downtime (which I have a lot more of.)
Ultimately, I hope COVIDoom allows people to take out their frustration on the stressful situation everyone finds themselves in now and is able to have some fun during their times spent at home.
