Our inspiration for this project was to help our community during the COVID-19 outbreak. We were inspired by the lack of resources during the pandemic. We wanted to help out our community by creating a website to easily access information about where and how to help. The website displays the COVID-19 symptoms and what do to if you are experiencing them, on the home page it also displays locations where you can volunteer. You can also see our social media accounts to keep up with us. On the donate now page, it showcases a multitude of different charities that are dedicated to COVID relief effort in our community. You can read about their mission statements and see which effort you would like to support. The donations needed page shows 3 different maps of places using Google Apps API that need aid: hospitals, food banks and donation centers. You can see what is nearby to you and you can offer your help. We built our website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also implemented Google Maps API into our website on various occasions such as the home page and the 3 maps implemented on the donations needed page. We used forms to organize the donations and show information regarding each individual charity and included a donate button. We used scripts and we made the website dynamically adjust size according to the device it is being displayed on. We ran into several challenges during the building of this website. Some issues include button formatting and placement. We also run into hurdles when trying to implement Google Maps API to search for nearby locations that needed help. To dynamically modify the website so that it works properly and scales fully on all web pages regardless of device; we worked hard to implement a mobile version, and a resizing to various resolution. This was a difficult challenge, as we found that it behaved differently on various resolutions. Some other challenges we faced was programming at the same time, we used an IDE called ATOM, but we had unreliable internet connections due to COVID. We also used Google Drive to send over large files and communicated through Discord. We are proud of our Google Maps API implementation, as well as our full scaling website. We are also very proud our form animations, our website looks modern, clean, and smooth. Our animations are free flowing, and the site behave similarly on all devices. We learned how to implement Google Maps API into a website, as well as how to implement scripts and forms. This was also the first time we learned how to publish a website through GitHub and Netlify. We have big plans in store for the future of CoviDonate, we plan to implement a chat room and a login page so that community members can create posting of volunteer opportunities and donations needed.
