Inspiration

This product was inspired by the boredom that we all encountered during the quarantine. People were concerned about how safe it was to do outdoor activities. This website suggests activities while considering how dangerous it could be to go outside.

What it does

The user inputs their Zip Code and Age into the website and it will report the density of Coronavirus cases in your area and tell you if it's safe to do outdoor activities. Imputing your age and scanning the density of the coronavirus will suggest appropriate activities.

How I built it

First, I started working on the front-end stuff, such as the website. My team developed the processes using python. I used photoshop and designed the logo and the background. We used flask to connect the HTML website to the python code. The data that is printed comes from a Coronavirus API document. I formatted the pages with bootstrap while my other teammates added to the python methods and calculations.

Challenges I ran into

One of the challenges we encountered was that the URL would be coded in python but would have to get the page from an HTML. Another problem we met was trying to get the right API's to calculate the number of people infected. This number took over 4 hours to format.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of being able to write this in different programming languages and being able to overcome multiple difficulties we faced.

What I learned

I learned that there are many kinds of activities that people can do during COVID-19, but they haven't thought about them yet.

What's next for Covidmatic

Covidmatic will evolve to include more specific data and more accurate responses. One idea that came up was a quiz that tested for the personality of the user. The personality type would range from outdoorsy and nature-loving to crafty or a homebody. This would give more specific feedback when it recommends activities.
