Inspiration
Covid-19 With millions of people being affected around the world while hundreds of thousands are dying, we are inspired to bring more awareness. We want to challenge ourselves to create an application that displays a vast amount of critical information about Covid-19.
What it does
Our application strives to empower new knowledge about Covid-19 within the individuals.
- We display various choropleth maps to show areas of infection and spread
- We use latest updates news feed from New York Times to share updated news
- We generate graphs to show trends in Covid data to enable easy predictions
- We show State and County level data across the USA
- We show college cases across the country
How we built it
We used the Python framework Dash that is implemented on Flask to bring cross-platform functionality to the app. We used various data gathering methods to collect crucial information to create UI friendly environment for engaging revelations.
Challenges we ran into
We tried to use IBM Cloud Deployment for our app but we ran into issues after successful deployment due to the lack of memory in the free tier.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating an engaging UI with multiple features and a vast availability of data. We are also proud of using various data cleaning and mining techniques to collect worthful information.
What we learned
We learned a great deal about Covid-19 and the amount of people it affects. We learned a lot about the Dash Framework and how to properly generate graphs and maps.
What's next for CovidMaskOn
We a looking forward to implementing AI and ML to predict future trends to determine the likelihood of the user contacting the virus based on their location.
