Inspiration

With jobs and classes being online and lots of people being stuck at home, we wanted to create something that would help bring people together. While many people are still holding events, we hope to decrease risks by giving people a safer tool to plan events.

What it does

-collects data from the host -collects user input from the guests -queries for COVID API data in host county -creates recommendations for event goers based on threshold COVID metrics and guest vaccination status -sends message/email notifications to users

How we built it

We continuously coordinated via discord to divide tasks, collaborate on problems, and coordinate code. Our project utilized python, django, api.covidactnow

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult to code and assemble the project remotely in such a short time frame.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that despite this being our first hackathon, we were able to assemble the whole project together. We spent over 15 hours on a zoom call, collaborating on it. It was difficult but we persevered despite lack of sleep and no breaks. Even though the 4 of us were working on it remotely, we were still able to coordinate really well with one another.

What we learned

A collective takeaway from this experience was the power of working in a group. We found that challenges and problems were less daunting when there was someone else to talk things through with. We learned how to get and format API data, implementation of django backend servers, and use new python libraries.

What's next for COVIDHacks

  1. Expand functionality to include other states/countries
  2. Further refinement of recommendations and analysis of data
  3. Incorporation into existing event/meeting planner services using COVID recommendation add-on
