COVIDHackathon2020

We were inspired by thinking about issues COVID-19 caused that affect our daily lives, specifically as life begins to open up once again. Although we did not have much previous experience in developing applications, we learned the basics of React Native to create a simple verison of the application. Additionally, we created a Figma to get an idea of what the app would visually look like here: [https://www.figma.com/proto/c6Odp1lzEjn5dNCgFOuehP/Interspace?node-id=78%3A1&scaling=scale-down] Other resources we used to further understand various Social Media APIs are here: Instagram: [https://medium.com/@bruceoh/data-mining-instagram-scraper-location-tag-w-yelp-data-set-2-94728064a4c0] Facebook: [https://developers.facebook.com/docs/places/web/search] and Snapchat: [https://github.com/CaliAlec/snap-map-private-api] We faced challenges trying to integrate the data over to the physical application. However, we believe with more experience and time with React Native it would not be too complicated of a process. We also had to consider the legality of taking this information, we ultimately concluded since the information is based on public data it did not feel ethically wrong.

This was my first real Hackathon! I got to look into APIs and see how apps use location data from users to make their own analysis.

This was my first Hackathon! I really enjoyed every step in the creation and further development of our project from scratch. I definitely want to continue learning react native and more mobile app development.

This was my first hackathon!! I genuinely enjoyed working with this team to create this app. I worked specifically with the Snapchat API, and look forward to using more APIs in the future!

This was my first real Hackathon! I had never used Figma before but it helped me prototype our vision for Interspace easily. I will definitely be looking into APIs and how they can further be used efficiently!
