Inspiration
We noticed that loneliness is a problem in long-term care homes through families, friends, and the news. Physical cards are already something that is sent to people in long-term care homes, which is why we discovered a faster solution, virtual messages, to get in touch with them.
What it does
Our website allows users to either volunteer to get paired up with someone from a long-term care home or long-term care homes can register for their residents to get paired up with a volunteer. Volunteers will be able to input their interests and information about themselves to find someone who shares those same interests. Emails will be sent once a match is made.
How I built it
Our team used Adobe Dreamweaver to implement our html code and we hosted our website on GitHub.
Challenges I ran into
This was the first time our team used this software, so there were many challenges we had to face since this was new to us. One of the challenges we faced was figuring out how to add a submission form to our website. Through lots of research, we figured out how to do it. Another challenge was working together as a team virtually while learning how to code. Since we had good communication between our members, we were able to counteract this challenge.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We're proud of the website we created. This is our first-ever coding project and we definitely learned the amount of time and effort that is put into these projects. We are also proud of figuring out how to upload our website to GitHub Pages.
What's next for Covidd Space
In the future, we plan on implementing an option for volunteers to shop for groceries for those in need.
Domain Name Challenge
We thought we could use the .space extension to our advantage to create our URL, covidd.space See proof of registration in the image gallery
