Inspiration
In today's age of COVID-19, self-assessment forms are frequently used as a prerequisite for entry into workspaces and appointments to ensure safety. This is a barrier for over 100000 Canadians who are blind. As a result, CovidChecker seeks to solve this problem by providing people with the opportunity to fill out these forms with their voice instead of their hands.
What it does
This application navigates people through the process of the COVID-19 self-assessment form recommended by the Government of Ontario via Google Assistant, and outputs results based on the user's answers to the questions to determine whether the user is in immediate danger of COVID-19. It stores this data in a spreadsheet which allows for the user to show their most recent results to fulfil the requirements of workspaces, events, and appointments.
How I built it
We primarily used the Voiceflow API alongside with a bit of JavaScript for the front end, and were able to integrate this alongside Google Actions to finish with the working product we have now today.
Challenges I ran into
This was our first experience with the Voiceflow API, so learning all the fine details was tough initially.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The development and progress we have achieved in the last 36 hours!
What I learned
Lots!
What's next for CovidChecker
In the future we would seek to improve CovidChecker by finding improvements to make the process even more efficient - for example, allowing for the users to potentially alter only one question instead of having to do the whole form again.
