COVIDAWARE

Inspiration

I am very conscious in the current pandemic issues we are facing. most people in our local community aren't actually updated or informed about the status of this disease. a large fraction of households rely on local news and social media posts that are sometimes not that reliable to read on. i want to end this "Fake News" sources by creating an app that delivers legitimate news from legitimate sources, a self assessment tool for checking the basic symptoms of the disease and many more.

What it does

COVIDAWARE is an All-in-one mobile app develop as a form of a portal to deliver legitimate data sources. it will have a Facebook Page Feed as the home of the app (Facebook requires less data versus other internet sources since internet data in our community is very slow), it will also have an information tab about the COVID-19 and its dangers, containment and other physical information as will as its current global and local cases (Philippines) in real-time using API based on Worldometer.info data. it will also features a list of healthy tips, a comprehensive day-by-day signs and symptoms tab to enlighten the users about the process and containment of the virus. the app also has an embedded triage assessment tool for the users and an official hotline from the Department of Health. the app also has an integrated push notifications from onesignal to deliver updates, advisories and preventive measures to the users all the time (runs in the background to ensure that every notification will be sent accordingly.

How I built it

As an Application Developer, i want the app to be as simpler and functional as possible. making sure that the app will run in many range of handsets since not all locals in our community does have a powerful devices to use any fancy technologies as of now. i use bootstrap/propellers.css to design the front-end while integrating jquery as the backbone of the API. i build the app using Apache Cordova as the android wrapper because of its variety of easy to use plugins (Run in Background, OneSignal etc.)

Challenges I ran into

While developing an app with a "Core" objective as legitimate source of information, i have face challenges in fetching data from a direct API sources, luckily i found an API that will sustain the data to my app.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This project itself is my achievement already as i develop something that i believe to help my fellow locals in our community.

What I learned

before is started and implemented this project, i have conducted a deep research and survey on how to deliver a technology that will my fellow locals. i learned that the most important part of creating something to the community is to make it available and accessible to every people as much as possible.
