Exponential impact -- as humans, it's hard to understand.

We made a video story & visualization to help.

How we built it

Everything was built in 72 hours on MintData (https://mintdata.com) -- this is not a humble brag, it's the reality that our tooling makes a large impact in unfortunate times like this, by making it fast & easy to build web applications that would otherwise take much longer to build.

Challenges we ran into

The NYT dataset had FIPS codes for each county without lat/lon coordinates. We joined the NYT dataset with the US census to get centroids for each county, with all data prep being done in MintData spreadsheets as well, for speed & simplicity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Hard to say that we are proud -- in a difficult time like this, we are working to do our small part with what we can & what we have.

On a more limited basis (based on our engineering capacity), we can also create web apps on MintData for free. Please let us know what the community would find useful.

What we learned

We learned that as a global community, please really do unite in times of crisis like this, and that's heartwarming to see.

What's next for Covid42

Because it takes 3-7 days to build a full-fledged application on MintData, we are open to ideas & are considering building:

a) More interactive experiences to help us understand the data & hopefully make more informed decisions

b) Applications that bring people together -- an example is a way to connect those in need of medical supplies, with those who have them.

c) We are ready to help -- what would you like us to build post hackathon?
