'Thrive in adversity' course addresses the following impacts of the COVID-19 situation on the individual, family, community and society: physical, mental & emotional, and social & financial.

Inspiration

Mobile has the power to transform whole industries, yet it hasn't been put to full use in transforming how the world learns. Funzi is a service that combines effective pedagogy with robust technology to deliver impactful learning outcomes on all devices equipped with a browser.

Funzi has been used in various crises since 2015 and its impact in Syria, implemented by UNDP has been scientifically validated.

Since 2015 we have on a global scale seen that the current governments or global NGOs do not possess the skills required to implement mobile solutions. Our hope is that the joint efforts of the global tech industry on #covid19 can change that.

What it does

'Thrive in adversity' is practical and focuses on the individual. It covers health related topics, but also the impact of #covid19 on the individuals' families, their communities, workspaces and studies, and the societies.

The course uses the award-winning, effective, and motivating pedagogy of Funzi, it works on all connected devices, and is available with no data costs on Free Basics by Facebook in tens of countries around the world.

How we built it

We designed the course with world-leading experts and gathered content from trustworthy sources.

Challenges we ran into

The slow reaction times of governments and large NGOs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The effectiveness of the team. We started design this week and will launch next week. In that process we have also succeeded able in becoming a part of a nationwide, official outreach program in South Africa.

What we learned

When equipped with the right prior knowledge and access to good tools and a great network enables you to achieve goals that most would see as miracles.

What's next for 'Thrive in adversity' - mobile learning course

Nationwide launch in South Africa this week with a simultaneous global launch. Thereafter expansion into other markets. Hopefully contact with WHO's WhatsApp service developed by Praekelt.org and thereafter coordinated efforts with them.
