Inspiration
Throughout this pandemic, we have been needing of a single, reliable source that could provide us with all of the information we ever would want to know about the pandemic. Because of the many angles, one could approach researching about this topic, it would be hard to find one place where there is a general idea of each main topic. I know for a fact that when I search up "coronavirus", Google gives me 2.38 billion search results. So how would I know where to look first? This inspired us to compile all of the information one might need in one place for easy access.
What it does
The Covid-19 One-Stop Shop is a website that provides readers with information about the vaccines, where to get tested, places to donate, and ideas for activities to do during the quarantine.
How we built it
PASS (that's us!) used repl.it to create the HTML website. We mainly used the programming languages HTML and CSS to create the website.
Challenges we ran into
Many of the members of PASS had never previously been to a Hackathon. As a result, we were rather lost before this morning on how anything would work. Luckily, as a team, we were able to persevere and work together on this project. Specific challenges included syntax barriers. This syntax was new to me- the writer of this Project Story- and just looking at the interface was confusing at first. Throughout the day, I was able to familiarize myself. One of our main struggles had to be the time constraint, as between the workshops and guest speakers, between meals of the day, and between the personal breaks we needed to take for ourselves- we had barely any time for our project! We managed to split up the tasks and finish before taking the night off.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
PASS is extremely proud of the product that we created in this Hackathon. There isn't anything specific within the website that we are all proud of as we worked together, but we are extremely proud of what we were able to create together. One thing we are especially proud of is being able to create a project in such a small span of time as there was so much to do.
What we learned
Some of the members of our team who were unfamiliar with this new interface and language gained a new experience with HTML. We were able to explore the new programming language and look into all of the features it offered when it came to creating websites. We learned how to embed features into the website, paste links, change the display, and more.
What's next for Covid-19 One Stop Shop
If we decide to continue developing the website, we'd add on information as we learn about COVID-19. Recently, there have been variants to the Coronavirus around the world, and we would need to educate our readers of these new variants. We would also update the website with new information on vaccinations and the lines for getting vaccinated as they get shorter. As this happens to be a hot topic on the news right now, we get new information every single day with new discoveries- both good and bad. Hopefully, Covid-19 One-Stop Shop can remain an up-to-date, informational website for all users.
