Inspiration

"Find My Friend" app on iphones is an easy way of tracking people locally. We wanted to utilize that idea to create a contact tracing app capable of anonymous tracking of potential positive cases.

What it does

Widespread anonymous contact tracing using phone GPS to track potential positive COVID-19 cases.

How we built it

  • Using python and the kivy GUI we created a demo for our app interface
  • The final app implementation will utilize the plyer module to access a device’s gps as well as a server built through flask
  • Create a data structure to store contacts with current time

Challenges we ran into

  • Communication via online platform was challenging.
  • Required research into preferable languages, capabilities of different web servers, GUIs and languages to meet our problem statement needs.
  • Couldn't make a proper skit with all the group members in attendance ==> this resulted in a reimprovised video for submission.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Protects privacy by allowing for anonymity
  • User friendly
  • Verification process

What we learned

  • Python and Kivy GUI
  • Facts about COVID-19 and social distancing
  • Got better at communicating online for effective teamwork.

What's next for COVID Trails

  • Plan to work with a reliable verification network
  • Broaden the scope of the app to person-place contact tracing
