Inspiration

Issues Staying at home has a very high cost for government and citizens.
- The presence of COVID-19 has several impacts:

COVID-19 immediate mortality and morbidity
Impact of resource restriction on Non-Covid Emergencies related : delays in diagnosing myocardial infarction, stroke, acute appendicitis because patients are afraid of going to the emergency room and arrive late
Impact of discontinued care on short-term and long-term chronic patients
Psychological impact: PTSD, depression, burnout

Questionnaires, applications have been set up to collect information on the disease to better understand it, but they do not transmit information.

Little visibility on the evolution of less serious cases.

Medical contents adapted to the general population are available but they have little visibility

To limit the spread of the virus and break the virus transmission chain, we must:

Early detection
Apply barrier measures: wearing masks, hydroalcoholic gel, etc.
Social distancing
Gather all the official information
Make everyone responsible for their role in the transmission of the virus

How can we live the deconfinement by limiting the risks for ourselves and for the others? How can I assess the risk to my health? How can I get out of the house by reducing the risk of infecting others? How can I get official information quickly in one place? How can this solution be with a less cost for the country and done in a quick timing?

What it does

Our solution ? COVID SAFETY

An application to assess the risk the user presents before each outing
Daily use, takes a few minutes…
Based on a simple questionnaire following the recommendations of the french government (last update 17.04.2020)
Use of a visual color scale to facilitate key messages
Presentation of a personalized message for the use about their health of the day but also prevention about complications of associated diseases they may have to guide the user
Promote barrier gestures
All the general informations provide by the government in a same place During the hackathon, we worked on the simplification of the application so that it is available in a faster time, to the greatest number.

How we built it

The application is under development by a short staff with great motivations. Respecting GDPR rules. Without tracking device. We use for front-end : Angular framework and Ionic, for back end : firebase real-time database and for Ui: ionic material design. The application is set to evolve over the epidemic. It will be available in a few weeks. Expected for May 2020.

Challenges we ran into

We want the application to be available to as many people as possible so we have to ensure that the application could be used on all platforms : Web, Android, iOS. We need to be sure that there are no problem in our personalized messages, so we will first do a test application in a few days before a large-scale distribution. We need improvement in delivering the application to citizens. We need support in the marketing department, support to promote the application. We need support in finance department for data hosting.

COVID SAFETY helps citizen get the information they need and much more, all in one place.

Our main goals

Detect as soon as possible a person infected with the virus so that they can carry out a medical consultation and benefit from tests if necessary: it is a "privileged weapon to get out at the right time of confinement" as said Mr. President Macron during his speech on April 13, 2020.
Help the government prepare for the evolution of the epidemic.
Obtain visibility of less serious cases to better anticipate needs and better manage the epidemic.
Avoid diagnostic delays.
Limiting the spread and breaking the chain of virus transmission.
Recall “barrier gestures” because partial deconfinement does not mean the end of the pandemic.
Raise awareness of serious illnesses and avoid delays in diagnosis.
Gather prevention data in the same place to better transmit information.
Avoid fake news.
Personal efforts of the user will have a double advantage: personal and collective.

The impact of our solution to the crisis

Being able to get out and get back to work quickly would allow an economic recovery. Patients detected earlier would benefit from rapid screening and better medical follow-up. If each positive patient isolates himself, then there is no transmission of the virus. Also patients with chronic diseases would have better care, and a cost less for the health system. A second epidemic wave would be avoided.

What we learned

In our team, we practice different specialties and we have different expériences. It helped us move forward a lot.

What's next for COVID SAFETY

We will start the test phase soon. After the crisis, our solution can be a key in chronic diseases, other epidemics (flu every year, Chikungunya, Dengue…).
