Inspiration
I saw a lot of people who are really worried and anxious during this quarantine period. Their mental health is suffering. Hence, in such a time, we need every one of us to get united, spread love, positivity, and hope, and help others who are dealing with anxiety and loneliness during this challenging time. So I thought of building a platform where every one of us can write anonymous letters to spread love and positivity. These letters will help every one of us in different corners of the world to stay hopeful and strong, and will especially help the people with anxiety.
What it does
People can write anonymous letters to spread love and positivity. As you write letters, you will be helping a lot of people to stay positive and feel better. When in need of some love and positivity, you can come here to read letters contributed by others
How we built it
We used Bootstrap to build the front-end and the back-end is built using Node.js. We chose MongoDB as a database. Our website is currently hosted on Heroku.
Challenges we ran into
We faced little issues with the implementation part at the beginning. We had a rough layout of the website ready, but coming up with the logic and implementing it was very challenging, and we enjoyed it. We further had to iterate many times based on the feedback we got from the people.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
In just a day, we got visitors from 14 different countries (which you can see on the website) and around 19 letters. But if there's something we are most proud of, it's using our skills to help people stay positive in this challenging time.
What we learned
- Patience and perseverance (debugging, iterating design many times based on the feedback)
- Deploying our skills for social impact and helping people
What's next for COVID Letters
As we move forward, we are further thinking of adding support for converting and writing letters in various regional languages, so that even people who don't understand English, can spread and take positivity :)
